MILLER, BEN-ZION
MILLER, BEN-ZION (1947– ), ḥazzan. Miller was born in Germany where his father, Rabbi Aharon Miller, was serving as ḥazzan to the Klausenburger rebbe in a German refugee camp. He studied at the Bobov yeshivah in Israel, becoming a ḥazzan and shoḥet. He also came under the tutelage of the well-known cantor samuel baruch taube . Thereafter he served as ḥazzan in New Jersey, New York, and Canada, before becoming, in 1981, ḥazzan of the Beth-El synagogue of Boro Park in Brooklyn, New York. He has also appeared in concert in Europe, the United States, Australia, and Israel. He is one of the few Orthodox cantors dedicated to perpetuating the great virtuoso cantorial styles and tradition of the 19th and early 20th centuries. A tremendous recording and performing artist, Miller has many varied recordings to his credit, including the Milken Archive releases issued by Naxos. (Akiva Zimmerman / Raymond Goldstein (2nd ed.)
